I love pizza! Who doesn’t? Unfortunately, it can take a long time to discover the best pizza places in town. Several attempts of trying cold cheese pies or undercooked crusts can lead one to believe there aren’t any good pizza places around.
That’s not true! I’m here to tell you there are more than a few great pizza places in the local neighborhood. The area is constantly changing and the list is ever-evolving. So let’s go! Here are the top three best pizzerias currently in Silicon Beach!
The Best Selection for Pizza: 800 Degrees Pizza - 12751 West Millennium Dr., Playa Vista, CA
In the heart of the expanding Runway development district centered in Playa Vista, 800 Degrees Neopolitan Pizzeria is one of the newest installments to join the trendy boutique galleria. Not only is 800 Degrees one of the most recent additions, but it is also one of the best places to grab a slice in the Silicon Beach area!
Boasting a plethora of different options, this new eatery allows you to build your own pizza with a variety of fresh ingredients. The journey begins with three simple bases: the Margherita, the Bianca, and the Verde. Each are topped with decadent fresh mozzarella, Parmigiano Reggiano, and allows you to customize to your liking.
Unlike many other build-your-own pizza shops, 800 Degrees uses a large wood-fired stove to cook your pizza to perfection. The restaurant itself is a classy affair with chandeliers hanging from the ceilings and I love how the wooden booths remind me of old New York interior design. Not too fancy, yet completely modern, 800 Degrees is a wonderful restaurant that bakes some of the finest pizzas in the neighborhood.
I personally built my own meat lover’s pizza with Italian sausage and pepperoni (using the Margherita base), while also sampling a plain Verde. Out of the two, the traditional Verde was definitely my favorite and I would absolutely recommend you try it if you are a fan of pesto and mozzarella!
If not, there are numerous other toppings and endless varieties that you could choose from. Take a look at 800 Degrees website and check out all of the different options you could use to build your very own wood-fired pizza.
The Best Cheese Pizza: Melody Pizza- 9146 S. Sepulveda Blvd. Westchester, CA
Located less than ten minutes from the busy LAX airport, Melody Pizza serves some of the most unique pizza pies in the area. Among them are the Bulgogi (Korean BBQ) Pizza, Mac and Cheese Pizza, and my favorite “The Tres.”
I’m sure you’ve heard of a three-cheese pizza, but have you ever heard of a three-pizza pizza? This triple threat pie consists of a standard cheese pizza, white garlic pizza, and pesto pizza circling out from the center to the crust in a pattern similar to a bullseye.
I had learned of this peculiar pie from other foodies and had wanted to try it for a while. Upon sampling, I discovered the pie is a fascinating merger of the best varieties of different cheese pizzas. I had expected something odd and perhaps bold (due to the pesto), but was surprisingly satisfied by the pleasing blend of pie toppings.
This delightfully unusual take on the ordinary cheese pizza is a wonderful detour and is something of a secret. It is only available via special order, but is absolutely deserving of your attention and well-worth the price of admission.
Check out Melody Pizza’s menu and be sure to call ahead to ask for “The Tres.”
