The 5 freeway in north San Diego county isn't a likely place to spot a live growing pumpkin patch, but it had caught my eye on a number of occasions. So it was on this sunny day with an impossibly cerulean sky, I set out to see for myself what it was all about.
Set right off Cannon road is the Carlsbad strawberry company, where for a small fee you can also pick your own strawberries.
During the fall though they set aside a large area of this land with this amazingly fertile soil to grow pumpkins.
First thing I noticed, the average pumpkin was the size of a car tire or larger. Scarecrows dot the horizon here and there adding to the ambience, and there are photos ops at every turn. The entrance area boast rows of average size pumpkins off the vine ready to carve, as well as what they call a corn maze....about a half acre of corn with a maze cut into it to explore if you dare....with the hope to exit to the other end to purchase a pumpkin to take home. Pumpkin painting, hayrides and pumpkins growing from the vine is a great way to hail in Fall of 2016 at the Pumpkin Patch in Carlsbad.
